Heavy doors need correctly sized springs
Mount Juliet Garage Door Rescue serves Kelsey Glen in Mount Juliet, TN 37122, a newer all-brick community where most homes have two or three-car garages. Heavier, wider doors put more cycles on torsion springs, so spring replacement and balance work are our most common calls here. Most jobs fall between $129 and $399. Call (615) 616-0612.
Here is the physics that matters: a double or triple-wide door is substantially heavier than a single-car door, and insulated steel adds more weight on top of that. Torsion springs are sized to the door's actual weight and rated by cycle life. When springs are undersized for a heavy door, they cycle out early, and the opener ends up doing lifting work it was never designed for, which shortens the opener's life too. Our spring replacement starts by weighing the door, then installing a matched pair with the right cycle rating, not just whatever was on the shelf.
Wide doors also magnify small imbalances. A cable with slightly uneven tension side to side, or a few worn rollers, shows up as shuddering on a 16-foot door where a single-car door would shrug it off. That is why a shaking triple-wide door gets cable and track attention, not just a lubrication spray: we equalize cable tension, replace binding rollers through roller replacement, verify the track is plumb, and finish with a balance test.
